This series ended much better than it started. They must figure out how to get home along with ending the alien threat once and for all.

But on the whole, I'm glad I read this series, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an alien sci-fi YA dripping with diversity and with an excellent, nuanced romance between well-developed protagonists. I ended up awarding this final book 3 stars, based on the two above points. Though the prose is deceptively easy to get through, none of these books are a light read.
This book BADLY needed an epilogue, especially when you consider how heavy the subject matter is for most of the trilogy and how damaged the main characters must be. Seriously, it's been months, and I'm still not over it. At one point, it did start feeling a little gratuitous, like the author was throwing them in for shock value rather than because they contributed to the plot. ⤅ Hero and heroine who complement each other well. Many of the questions I had in the earlier books are finally answered. But here's what I do remember taking away from the book: It's been a while since I've read this book now, so I won't go into details. ⤅ This is like fricking Game of Thrones when it comes to character deaths, just set in space.
